Crawford Blog: Tis the Season

Brought to you by Traditional Lacrosse; It’s not just a game, it’s a tradition.

Snow is on the ground, lights are hanging from houses, trees are decorated and the festive season is upon us. It can only mean one thing, the beginning of training camp. Officially training camp season is among us and as players the life style of 4 days at home 3 days on the road begins. This year will be a little different than the last 9 as I just recently added a new member to my family. My Fiancé Laura and I had a new Baby boy 3 month’s ago and this will be my first season truly juggling lacrosse and family life. I am very lucky to have the support I need at home to continue to pursue my passion and playing in the National Lacrosse League. This year I won’t only be a lacrosse player, but I’ll be a father as well. What does that mean for the Swarm? That means there will be 19 Uncles and our coaching staff is instantly granted that GRAND uncle title. What does that mean for Ownership? Sorry John but you are now considered a GREAT GRAND uncle.

One of the greatest things of getting to play a sport for a living is the extended family that comes with it. Its truly a brotherhood of men pursing a common goal, and over the course of a year (or 5) the members of that team become as close to you as family regardless to how far they are or how long you have known them. It’s something that’s truly impossible to explain unless you have lived that life.

With our training camp about to open up in a week from now, I’m excited to be reunited with that family. Especially since I’ll be collecting diaper money from Suitor on a weekly basis. I’m even more excited to take the floor and finally start to put the pieces to the puzzle together. The season we had in Minnesota last year left all of us with a sour taste. Usually I get to enjoy the off-season with some much-needed R&R but after last season there has been a longing for 2015. There will be many new faces next weekend, as we will be missing some guy’s who have been around for a while. That’s part of the job and part of the life, its up to us to figure out the recipe to succeed and just like every other team in this league Championship is all that matters.
