Colin Heacock’s four goals along with Matt Rambo’s hat-trick paced the Terrapins (2-2) to a hard fought 12-8 victory over the Drexel Dragons (1-3) at Vidas field in Philadelphia last night.

The first half was an up and back battle between both teams.  As one teams offense would put on an attack the defense would be just as strong.  Both goalies Jimmy Joe Granito (Drexel) and Kyle Bernlohr (Maryland) were stellar for their teams.

Maryland jumped on the board first at 3:29 as Tim Rotanz scored his first of two on the night, then 1:29 later Matt Rambo nets his first.  It wasn’t until 6:06 when Drexel finally scored.  Mason Pynn  took a great feed from Cole Shafer for the goal.  Maryland would respond with two goals separated by 1:02.  Drexel’s Robert Frazee would close the scoring out for the first quarter as Drexel would trail 4-2.

The second quarter was a defensive battle with only one goal being scored by either team.  Robert Frazee would net his second of the night as Drexel cut the lead at halftime to 4-3.  This was Drexel’s chance to put a few more goals on the board, but Maryland’s defense and goaltending stood tall to limit the Dragons to just one goal.  Meanwhile, Jimmy Joe Granito was even better as he held the Terrapins scoreless the entire second quarter.

Finally at 1:14 of the third Colin Heacock scored his first of the night ending a scoreless streak of 21:07.  Drexel would come back with two straight goals to tie the game at five.  Maryland would then go on a three goal run to end the third quarter and hold an 8-5 lead heading into the fourth.

As the final quarter started teams would exchange goals with Drexel cutting the lead to 9-7.  But Maryland would score two straight making the score 11-7 with 6:16 remaining.  Drexel would score what was to be their final goal seven seconds later as the Terrapins would hold off the Dragons fire in the next five minutes.  Colin Heacock would net his fourth at 13:22 to seal the victory for Maryland.

Maryland was near perfect on clears (17-18), while Drexel was (12-15).
