The Denver Outlaws 23 man protected roster has a lot of familiar faces on it, along with a new one. Their unprotected roster has some big names on it as well.
Denver also decided, a week prior to the rosters being announced, that they would trade one of their top midfielders, Peet Poillon, to the Charlotte Hounds. In return, the Outlaws received a very good attackman in Jeremy Boltus.
This wasn’t a bad trade at all for either team. The Hounds get a great midfielder in Poillon, who had 24 goals and 13 assists last year for Denver. Boltus brings his 17 goals and 12 assists over from Charlotte and adds a feeder into their already dominant attack system in Denver.
Pollion is not the only Outlaw to head to Charlotte. Midfielder Casey Cittadino will be joining him there, while the Hounds send Denver a 6th round supplemental draft choice.
Dan Cocchi and Josh Sims are two big names on the Outlaws unprotected list. Cocchi, a more defensive midfielder, was traded to Denver after starting 2012 with Long Island. Sims ended his 2012 campaign with 13 goals and 3 assists.
Joining those two are defensemen Matt Bernier and Tom Celentani. Bernier, a rookie, played in 4 games, recording 14 ground balls. Fellow rookie defender, Celntani, saw action in 3 games and scooped up 3 ground balls.
The Outlaws protected rookie Curtis Dickson, who did not see the field in 2012. Along with Greg Downing, who was on the injured reserve list last season and also saw no action.
Denver came up short in 2012 after an amazing comeback against Long Island in the playoffs. They return a core of their team, including a few rookies from last season who will have some big shoes to fill. Hopefully Denver can get over that hump of not winning the Steinfeld Cup/Trophy (still controversy on what it actually is called) and can bring home some hardware in 2013.
