PLL: Chrome knocks off another top-rated team
Chrome Lacrosse Club scored late in the fourth quarter and held the undefeated Archers Lacrosse Club to only one goal at the end of the game to upset a dominant lacrosse team for the second week in a row, taking the 8-7 win in Friday night PLL action. The group of lacrosse veterans on Chrome seem to have found their niche in the Premier Lacrosse League these last two weeks. Although…
PLL: Down go the defending champs
It was a bad day to be a Whipsnake. Chrome Lacrosse Club picked up their first win of the season on Sunday with a decisive 16-6 victory over the defending champions. Either way, a streak was going to end in this one. The Whipsnakes were working on a win streak dating back to 2019, and Chrome had yet to win a game this season. Zed Williams, injured on Friday, did not…
PLL: Cannons can’t beat Teat
Cannons Lacrosse Club struggled against Atlas LC on Sunday afternoon at Homewood Field, losing 18-17 despite a valiant effort from Lyle Thompson at the buzzer. Thompson went for a 2-pointer, which would have given the Cannons the win, but he was tackled onto the field by Michael Rexrode. Most surprising in the game was that Thompson was held to two assists. A goalless game has only happened one other time…
PLL: Whipsnakes slither past Atlas
Matt Rambo did what Matt Rambo is used to doing in the Premier Lacrosse League – winning in overtime. The Whipsnakes’ forward ended Atlas’ quest to stop the defending champions’ win streak when he scored in OT for the 12-11 Whipsnakes win on Friday night. The Whips’ streak is now at 11. The powerhouse club remains unbeaten this season. In fact, the Whipsnakes last lost in 2019. Atlas head coach Ben…
ILWT Feature: No more Miller time in Philadelphia
Brandon Miller retired from the National Lacrosse League much like he began his lacrosse career – quietly making an impact and moving on to do great things. And, if it seems like history is repeating itself, that is because it is. It is no longer Miller Time in Philadelphia. Miller first retired after the 2018 season where he’d been with the Toronto Rock for four and a half years after…
NLL: Wings stay local in first virtual draft
The Philadelphia Wings had eight draft picks in Thursday’s National Lacrosse League draft. Thirty-eight per cent of their picks were from Johns Hopkins as the Wings seem to be banking on local connections to support their fan base. Most of their picks also have a great mix of box and field experience. Their first pick was the 16th selection in the draft, the last pick of the first round. They…
ILWT Feature: Orangeville home to the best of the past, present and future generations of lacrosse
Orangeville, Ontario is a small town approximately 80 km (that’s 40 miles for our American friends) outside of Toronto. It is not a huge area, home to around 29,000 people. It is a pretty little town similar in many ways to other Canadian towns. Most people outside of the lacrosse world probably wouldn’t give it a second thought; however, lacrosse greats of the past and the present are changing that….
ILWT Memories: A mirror image
“It’s hard to hit her when she looks just like you,” a teammate once said to me. “It makes me hit her teammates harder,” I replied. If those lines were heard in a men’s lacrosse game, no one would blink. But they were said in several women’s lacrosse games. And if the old adage is true that girls can be vicious, imagine how it was when you played against someone who…
PLL: Chaos in control after 13-9 win over Archers in semi-finals
A quiver holds an archer’s arrows, but a quiver can also be a reaction from panic or fear. Thursday night in the PLL semi-finals Chaos LC made the Archers LC quiver from panic as the number seven seed controlled the entire game. The Archers didn’t have enough arrows in their own quivers to fight back, falling 13-9 to Chaos. Blaze Riorden had another strong game for Chaos, stopping 18 shots….
