Barrie Blizzard look to be a contenders in Inaugural season

The Canadian Lacrosse League this year introduced a new franchise in the form of the Barrie Blizzard. The Blizzard completed their supplemental draft over the weekend so what better time than now to analyze their team.

From Brampton the Blizzard selected Dave Campbell, Mike McLeod, Tyler Patterson and Anthony Lackey. Campbell will be a solid defenseman on the Barrie defense and will be the anchor of the Barrie defense. Mike Mcleod will be a solid playmaker for the Blizzard as he had 5 goals and 19 assists for 24 points and should help make Barrie’s offense Dynamic. While Patterson and Lackey will add to the Blizzard’s depth at forward and help their offense.

From the Durham Turf Dogs the Blizzard Selected Brandon Noble, Tyler Collins, Colin Boucher and Ryan McLelland. Noble will be a solid backup goaltender for the Blizzard.  While Colin Boucher and Tyler Collins will be another boost to the Blizzards offense this season. While McLelland who was solid last year may not play for the Blizzard this year as he the Rochester Knighthawks still own his rights.

From the Toronto Shooting Stars John Rae, Brad Trottier, Travis Bland, Jason Mainer and Mike Rollings and from the Niagara Lock Monsters the Blizzard selected Brice Queener, Garret Kikot, Scotty Komer, Derek Collins, Cameron Murphy, Lucas Vanderwilp and Mike Cregan.

The Blizzard will be led on offense by Travis Bland and Brice Queener who will both be expected to carry the offense for Barrie as they have both be known for the ability to put the ball in the back of the net. The Blizzard also picked up goalie Blake Comer who will have to anchor the team in net and will be called upon to keep the Blizzard in games. The Blizzard also have a solid young core as they drafted Mitch Barnard, and Caleb Wiles who will both be needed in the future and will hopefully develop their skills over this upcoming season.

The Barrie Blizzard will be a tough team to beat this year and look to have the talent to have a winning season or at least be competitive in every game they play this season.
