Bayhawks Top Cannons in OT

Last night the Chesapeake Bayhawks picked up their seventh win of the season as they downed the Boston Cannons 13-12 in overtime.The Cannons drop to 5-6 on the season, back under .500 and snapping their four game winning streak. It is also the Cannons first loss under head coach John Tucker.

The Cannons led the game with five seconds left before Casey Powell dodged past defender Brian Farrell and fell. As he got up he charged the crease with a shot as he fell, getting by goalie Jordan Burke. The game was sent into overtime.

In overtime the Cannons took a penalty for an illegal substitution and Drew Westervelt was found right in front of the cage. He had an easy top corner goal to win the game.

Paul Rabil, Ryan Boyle and Matt Poskay each had three points for the Cannons. Ben Rubeor and Powell had four points each while Westervelt and John Grant Jr had three.

This was Powell’s first game back in an MLL uniform and he had three goals in his first career game as a Bayhawk. Burke made 17 saves in the game while Bayhawks ‘tender Kip Turner made 15.

The Bayhawks were 2-for-5 on the power play, but the big blow was their OT man up goal. Chesapeake also led with 30 shots on goal to the Cannons 27.

Powell was named the MVP of the game in his return. The Cannons face the Hamilton Nationals next week while the Bayhawks head to Denver to face the 10 win Outlaws.
