The Barrie Blizzard are the first expansion team in the Canadian Lacrosse League. While Toronto and Niagara are also new, they have moved from other locations, making the Blizzard the only expansion team.
Some players they added included Anthony Lackey, who has played in the NLL with the Toronto Rock. They also added Brandon Noble out of Orangeville.
Travis Bland of the Kentucky Stickhorses and Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks will be solid on offense with the Blizzard along with Brice Queener who was added.
In the draft, the Blizzard picked up Mitch Barnard and Caleb Wiles who will be good rookies in the league. They also took a long shot in drafting Hayden Smith who was drafted by the NLL’s Buffalo Bandits.
Mike Teeter was selected to the Toronto Rock as well, but it looks more likely that he will end up playing Barrie with the depth that Toronto has.
In net, the Blizzard have picked up Scott Komer, who was recently signed to the NLL’s Philadelphia Wings for a chance to fight out a backup role.
The Blizzard look like they will contend in year one of the Canadian Lacrosse League as an expansion team.
