Bombers Top Rockhoppers in Overtime Thriller

The Baltimore Bombers won their first game of NALL action last night when they defeated the Boston Rockhoppers 17-16 in overtime. Andrew Wasik led them with four goals while Justin Otto had two.

Ginny Cappichioni played the entire game in net. Also scoring for the Bombers were Devan Spilker and Dan Deckelbaum. James Synoweiz picked up two goals as well. For Boston, they saw four goals from Ryan Hotaling, two from Cameron Lao-Gosney and also goals from Mike Stone and Jon Hayes.

Nick Schroeder started in goal but injured his thumb and missed two plays when backup Vince Talbot took the net. Schroeder entered the game a few minutes later.

“Tons of energy all around.” said Otto. “We knew it would be a tough game but we prepared well at practice and stayed positive the whole game. Everyone played their role and we got the W.”

Baltimore was without top players such as Shawn Nadelin and Dan Marhol tonight, but were still able to spot 16 goals in the victory.

“Obviously it was huge to win our first franchise game.” Otto said. “Hats off to Ginny and the rest of the defense for coming up big in the 4th quarter and giving the offense a chance to win it. Offensively, we were unselfish and buried our opportunities. There’s still some work to be done but I think everyone was happy with the performance.”

Baltimore missed their first game of the season last week due to problems with the Rhode Island arena, making this their opener against a team in Boston who won last week. This was a very impressive win for them for that reason, especially without their top two players.

“I think limiting their transition game was huge.” says Otto. “They are a very athletic team and looked to use their speed to their advantage. We did a great job subbing and stopping breaks for the most part. We also finished our man up opportunities which is always huge.”

Next week Baltimore plays their first home game where they host Rhode Island who lost last night in Kentucky. 1,300 fans were in attendances for the game.

“We will continue to tighten up on offense with better shot choices and hard pick and rolls.” Otto said. “The team chemistry is starting to show and as we continue to work together, we will definitely be a force to be reckoned with.”
