The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, today announced their 25-man active roster and 6-man practice squad for the start of the 2014 season, according to Cannons General Manager Kevin Barney.
“We had a strong couple of weeks of training camp,” said Cannons Head Coach John Tucker. “From veterans and guys acquired in off-season trades, to new players it was a competitive camp at all positions. I am excited about our roster and look forward to opening day on April 27.”
The Cannons open the 2014 season at Harvard Stadium this Sunday, April 27 at 1:00pm against the defending MLL Champion Chesapeake Bayhawks. The Cannons split the 2013 season series with the Bayhawks 1-1, with both teams winning OT thrillers at their respective home fields.
The 25-man active roster is highlighted by veterans Mitch Belisle, Ryan Boyle, Kevin Buchanan, Chris Eck and Paul Rabil, all of whom have made the Team USA 30-man roster for the 2014 World Championships. Will Manny and Scott Ratliff lead the group of second year players on the active roster.
Off-season trade additions Brodie Merrill, Martin Cahill, Owen Blye, Will Mangan and Diogo Godoi are all on the 25-man active roster. Merrill is a six time MLL Defensive Player of the Year. The Cannons 1st Round Supplemental Draft pick Jack Rice is one of five attackmen on the active roster to start the season.
