CLax Names Players of Week Ten

While Ontario’s school children were kicking back for March Break, the Canadian Lacrosse League season kicked into high gear playing seven games over five days. The action saw every team play twice. Key results include the Niagara Lock Monsters moving themselves into a position to clinch a first round playoff bye, the Brampton Inferno breaking their season-long tie for fourth with the Durham Turfdogs, and the Barrie Blizzard winning their first home game as a franchise. As the dust settles on week ten, here are the weekly award winners of CLax’s Surge Apparel Players of the Week.

Offensive Player of the Week

Andrew Potter – Niagara Lock Monsters
The Lock Monsters moved atop the CLax standings with two wins, and Andrew Potter ends the week in a tie for first in league scoring. Potter’s weekend was led by a ten point performance against Toronto to go along with two points earlier in the week. He totals seven goals and five assists in the week for eleven of his season’s sixty-two points.
Honourable Mention
Brad Levick, Toronto Shooting Stars (3 goals, 9 assists, 12 points – 2 games); Ryan Campbell, Brampton Inferno (4 goals, 5 assists, 9 points – 2 games)

Defensive Player of the Week

Jay Preece – Brampton Inferno
Through nine games played Jay Preece leads the league in saves with 372. Jeff Powless of Ohsweken sits second with 364, but he’s played one less game. Preece started both weekend games for the Inferno, and won both making a combined 92 saves off 106 shots and allowing just seven goals in each game.

The duo is two points ahead of Ohsweken’s Delby Powless on the league leader board, although they have played one less game.

These came with no penalty minutes despite his team logging 167 in their Thursday night match against Toronto. Caravello is now fifth in rookie scoring on the season.
