NCAA: Loyola Takes on Hoyas

Wednesday March 20 – Tonight in Washington, D.C. lacrosse fans are in for a brutal treat as the Loyola Greyhounds (5-3) face-off against the Georgetown Hoyas (3-3) in a battle tested and cold crucial matchup.

After winning the men’s division 1 National Championship last spring, the Greyhounds have been off to a rough start losing two of their first four games. Tonight Loyola is led by junior attackman Justin Ward is has started the season on fire with an astonishing 34 points through his team’s first eight games.

The Greyhounds will also look for a stellar effort from their all-American junior net-minder Jack Runkel who has had a bad start to the season this far with a high goals against average, 8.91. For the Greyhounds to stay afloat and win this battle they will need consistent play from their all-American senior attack man Mike Sawyer and persistent defensive pressure.

After two straight overtime losses to start the season the Hoyas bounced back strong with a win over Dartmouth 10-9. The Hoyas are led by their sophomore attack man Reilly O’Connor, and if they want to have a chance to hang with the Greyhounds this evening, he has got to step up and play big. The Hoyas will also be looking for contributions from their other attack man senior Brian Casey. Casey brings the veteran leadership to the Hoyas and they will need that tonight going up against the defending national champions.
