Cyclops Look for Second Win, Face TurfDogs

The SouthWest Cyclops (1-2) and the Durham Turfdogs (1-3) will battle each other for the second time in seven days Saturday, February 22 at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

In the previous meeting between the squads, SouthWest notched their first win as a CLax franchise defeating Durham 12-9. The Cyclops trailed for a majority of the game before mounting an outstanding comeback that saw the Turfdogs outscored 6-0 in the final quarter.

Mike Burke led the Cyclops to victory with five points (3g, 2a), earning CLax Rookie of the Week nods for his efforts. The Edmonton Rush prospect proved clutch for SouthWest registering four of five points, which included a hat-trick capped off with the game winning goal, during the fourth quarter rally.

The brothers’ McCrory, Ryan and Patrick, were held scoreless for SouthWest in last week’s loss to the Turfdogs. The tandem were impressive in the Cyclops’ pair of high-scoring bouts with the Oshweken Demons, combing for 14 points.

NLL veteran Gavin Prout made his CLax debut against the Cyclops, notching a hat-trick while adding an assist for four points. At the opposite end of the experience spectrum, is Durham rookie Dylan Goddard, who was also impressive in the loss dishing out three assists and being named honorable mention Rookie of the Week.

Face-off for Saturday’s game is set for 7 p.m.
