European Lacrosse League Adds Three Americans

Yesterday the European Lacrosse League held their annual draft, and going across the pond are three Americans and four Canadians.What is the ELL?

The European Lacrosse League is the only pro level league in Europe. It is a tournament style league with three major tournaments and then the playoffs. There are four teams; the Custodes, Deutschland Adler, the Wolves and Pietro Filipi, the expansion team. Most of the players come from Germany and the Czech Republic.

High Draft Picks

The first overall pick was Andrew Fernando from Great Britian. Second overall to Pietro Filipi was American goaltender Ginny Capicchioni. The third went to Deutschland Adler and it was German Artjom Merjasch. Lastly, the fourth overall pick was German Phiipp Broz.

Americans

It was already mentioned that Capicchioni was drafted by Pietro Filipi and was a high draft pick. Fellow American goaltender and former Kentucky Stickhorses, Rochester Greywolves and Vermont Voyageurs goalie Patrick Crosby was 33rd overall to the Custodes. George Castle of the Stickhorses and former Philadelphia Wing is also on the Custodes.

Canadians

Three Canadians were drafted to Duetschland Adler, the reigning champions. Brian Tyacke and then BJ Porter and Jamie Plunkett. Tyacke is 26 years old and a transition player. Plunkett, age 30, is a former Boston Rockhopper and has been a mainstay with Duetschland Adler.

Marco Hill was drafted to the Custodes. He has played in the Can-Am Lacrosse League with the Six Nations Slash, and he had one assist this season.
