Evaluating the MVP Races

Three lacrosse leagues are in full swing currently; the National Lacrosse League, Canadian Lacrosse League and the North American Lacrosse League. The year is still young, but we are going to take a look at the MVP candidates thus far. Let us know who you’d vote for in the comments!

National Lacrosse League- Last Year’s MVP: John Grant Jr

Shawn Evans, Calgary Roughnecks

Evans has had a fantastic season for Calgary who has now won three games in a row to sit at 3-2 on the season. He leads the league with 37 points, 13 of them coming in one game against Philadelphia earlier this season. He has five points or more in every game this season. He also has a game MVP with five points against the Toronto Rock.

John Grant Jr, Colorado Mammoth

Grant, last season’s MVP, leads the league with 17 goals for the Colorado Mammoth. The team is 2-3 currently and he is fourth in the league with 30 overall points. He has two game MVPs this season, against Calgary and Minnesota.

Garrett Billings, Toronto Rock

Billings is second in the league with 36 points and leads the NLL with 27 assists after setting the all time assists mark last season. His Rock are 5-1 to have the best record in the NLL, and He’s had four points or more each game.

North American Lacrosse League- Last Year’s MVP: Joel Zalesky

Travis Bland, Kentucky Stickhorses

The Kentucky offense has struggled all season and the only constant has been the good play of Travis Bland. He leads the team with 16 points this season and his outside shot has been vital in their two victories this season.

Andrew Wasik, Baltimore Bombers

Wasik leads the league with 22 points for the 3-2 Baltimore Bombers. He scores three goals almost every game and had five points in the Baltimore victory over Kentucky on Friday night.

Andrew Kirkaldy, Boston Rockhoppers

Kirkaldy has been the best player in Boston with 19 points on the season. He scores three or more almost each game and has led the most prolific offense in the entire league. He has scored six goals in two games this season.

Canadian Lacrosse League- Last Year’s MVP- Chrs Attwood

Roger Vyse, Ohsweken Demons

Vyse leads the league with 40 points in six games along with a whopping 27 assists that leads the league by far. The Demons, who sit atop the league, have the best offense in the league and Vyse is the catalyst of it.

Wayne Van Everey, Ohsweken Demons

Van Every is third in the league with 30 points, playing in all six games for Ohsweken. He has 20 goals on the year, which is the most in the league for the first place Demons.

Corey Fowler, Niagara Lock Monsters

Fowler has played in just three games with the Monsters but he already has 22 points, fourth in the league. He has 13 assists in those games along with nine goals.
