Mammoth Release Matt Roik; Activate Tye Belanger

The Colorado Mammoth situation with their goaltenders has been well documented this NLL season, and now they currently have two netminders who were not on the active roster to start the season.

The Mammoth finally let go of Matt Roik yesterday after his terrible game against the Philadelphia Wings on Sunday. They also activated injured goaltender Tye Belanger who is now the presumed starter for Colorado.

“I am very confident in our young goaltending tandem, and I see them backstopping this team well into the future,” said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett in a press release.

Belanger had injured his arm before the season and was on the Physically Unable to Perform List. The other goaltender left on the roster is Dan Lewis, who saw some time in the second half of Sunday’s game.

Belanger is just 22 years old and he played 21 minutes last season. He allowed just three goals on 18 shots faced. He was a second round draft pick for the Mammoth in 2011.

Colorado is in last place in the west and currently the only team in the league out of a playoff position. This week they host the Rochester Knighthawks with their new tandem between the pipes.
