Earlier this summer the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association’s sitting president, Tony Scazzero, stepped down mid- term. The MCLA then held interviews to find the a new president before the end of June. Shortly after these interviews Gary Podesta, currently the vice president of competition, was named the new MCLA president.
After a short while the Board of Directors, made up of the conference directors, felt that the Executive Committee had made a mistake. This lead to a new round of interviews to try and find someone who both groups could agree on. After a few weeks they had decided on Ken Lovic.
Lovic was interviewed during both rounds of interviews. He comes into his new role as MCLA president with views from both sides of the coin, as a former Executive Committee member and current head coach at Georgia Tech.
Lovic will have many things he needs to address right away, foremost finding a site for the 2014 National Tournament. He will also have to address the fact that a number of conferences have lost automatic qualifiers and the loosing of a number of perennial powers to the NCAA. These are the biggest concerns for the MCLA right now.
The appointment of Lovic seems to have everyone fairly happy at the moment. The next few years will definitely be a make or break it time in the MCLA.
