MCLA Week One Review: Boston College Wins Thriller

Alright MCLA fans we’ve are week into the 2013 season and we’ve already had some very interesting games. Although a lot of the games played were scrimmages, there were some actual games that went on. It must be nice to play in the warmer climates, I’m still in a few feet of snow here in Minnesota.

First up lets go to Florida where Boston College went down to play Miami(Fl) and to play the, at the time of the game, 15th ranked Florida State Seminoles. The Eagles first played the Seminoles on Saturday after a few hours on a plane and the a bus ride to the field. The game finished in overtime 14-13 in the Eagles favor. BC then played Miami(Fl) on Sunday and had a much easier day finishing the Hurricanes off by a score of 21-3. The Eagles don’t play until March1st down in the football Mecca of Texas, taking on Southern Methodist, Texas St., and Texas.

The Aggies from Texas A&M played two games over the weekend against North Texas and MCLA D2 Sam Houston State. The Aggies had a rough weekend in College Station dropping the game against North Texas in overtime 7-6. They then got a little more roughed up by Sam Houston St., losing 15-12. After a weekend like this the Aggies will look to put in a good week of practices before taking on Texas St. on Feb. 9th, at home.

The Cardinal from Stanford had a big weekend against the Gauchos from UC- Santa Barbara. The Cardinal was lead by freshman middie Peter Doyle who threw down 5 goals in his MCLA debut. UC- Santa Barbara drop the game in overtime 12-11. The Cardinal now looks to take on NCAA D2 Dominican on Feb. 9th.

The MCLA D1 and D2 polls came out earlier this morning and there hasn’t been too much movement this week other than Boston College moving up 6 spots after their big Florida excursion and Stanford who moves up 4 spots after taking down the Gauchos.

The D2 level had even Less movement. The pollsters have Western Oregon moving up 3 spots after not playing a game and having a huge game against MCLA D1 Oregon coming up. The pollsters also have Western Washington moving up again, another 2 spots, after their scrimmage win against Washington.
