Minnesota Continues to Deal, Send Kirk to Philly

Alex Urquhart

The Minnesota Swarm have continued to deal players for future draft picks. Their most recent player moved was Evan Kirk, their 26 year old goaltender. The Swarm gave up Kirk for two draft picks from the Philadelphia Wings, one in the first round of the 2015 draft and a first round pick in the 2017 draft.

The Swarm drafted Kirk in the first round of the 2011 draft. His rookie year he led the league in goals against and save percentage, he was also named to the All- Rookie team. In his second year, Kirk, was hit or miss and went 3-3 in nine appearances for the Swarm.

This trade leads me to believe that Minnesota is setting up to draft Dillon Ward, who is the top ranked goalie prospect. The trade also could help Zach Higgins, who was the third rostered goalie on the team. Higgins is a Davenport University grad and had won the Mann Cup in 2012.

The Swarm have a plethora of future picks but will need to deal a little more to make that final push for the NLL Championship.
