NLL Season Preview: Minnesota Swarm

The Minnesota Swarm are going into their tenth year of existence this year, this is also the year that the Swarm are going into the season with the largest amount of anticipation and notoriety. This offseason the Swarm acquired Logan Schuss, Scott Jones, Cam Flint, Jason Noble , and Jordan Houtby. All five came by way of this year’s entry draft. To go along with these five rookies the Swarm also picked up defenseman Mike Hobbins after the Toronto Rock cut him in the early part of December. The Swarm are also getting back their Captain Andrew Suitor, after his rehab from a knee injury last season.

The Swarm are coming off a great post season that saw them to the Division Finals where they lost to the eventual NLL Champions, The Rochester Knighthawks. The Swarm are looking to better that by at least getting to the NLL Championship and possibly winning the Championship.

The Swarm are now back in the Eastern Division so they will be seeing a lot of their newest rival the Knighthawks. This will be great for both teams, but possibly not the league. The Swarm and Knighthawks are probably the two best teams in the league looking at the outset of the season and now having them in the same division will make the playoffs in the east, and maybe not the west, much better but will cause the two teams to face each other earlier in the playoffs. Neither team will complain about seeing someone else in the finals.

Logan Schuss looks to be the front runner for the Rookie of the year this year, After a stellar preseason that saw him score a number of goals. The next player that would be on the early list of Rookie of the Year would be fellow Swarm rookie Scott Jones. Jones had some huge goals in the offseason and one that one the preseason game against the Knighthawks. These two both will be big parts of the Swarm’s offense this year.

The Swarm are looking like they will be going late into the season this year. They start the season on the road at the Knighthawks on Dec. 28th at 7:30 EST. This will be a rematch from last year’s playoffs that knocked the Swarm out and propelled the Knighthawks on to the finals.
