MLL 3 Stars: Buchanon, Pannell, Wiedmaier Start Off 2014

First Star

Kevin Buchanon (Boston Cannons)

Buchanon led the Cannons offensively against the Bayhawks providing offense early and keeping the pressure on Chesapeake throughout. Boston was led by Buchanan who scored seven goals on only eight shots.

Subsequently, Buchanan was named the Coca Cola player of the game as well as the Warrior Offensive Player of the Week due to his offensive explosion.

The Cannons now head on the road against Rochester for a May 2 matchup, before coming back to Boston for their second home game of the year against Denver on May 10.

Second Star

Rob Pannell (New York Lizards)

Rob (2013 Cascade Rookie of the Year) lead the Lizards’ attack scoring six goals, five of which were unassisted. Rob is expected to be an offensive leader for a Lizards team that opened the season with huge victory over Rochester Rattlers at Shuart Stadium 18-15.

In a game where offense was prominent, Rob was the key component as to why the Lizards opened their season 1-0. He was named the Player of the Game for his impressive performance. The Lizards travel to Chesapeake to take on the defending MLL Champion Bayhawks next Saturday at 7 pm.

Third Star

Chad Wiedmaier (Ohio Machine)

The Machine defenseman was named the Warrior Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in Ohio’s 15-8 season-opening victory against Charlotte on Saturday. Wiedmaier helped lead the Machine defense that held the 2013 MLL runners-up Hounds scoreless in two of four quarters.

His primary concern was attackman Matt Danowski (who finished fourth in the league with 49 points last season) throughout the game, holding him to just one assist. The Machine is scheduled to play the Outlaws in Denver on Sunday.
