MLL To Allow Non-Warrior Equipment in Games

It was announced by Major League Lacrosse last week that the league will now allow companies other than Warrior, Brine, Cascade and New Balance to sponsor players for them to wear their equipment in game.

This does not mean a player can just chose any equipment they want from any company. A company has to partner with the league still, but they now have the option to do so.

Helmets are still exclusively Cascade until 2014 due to a previous agreement. Here is what commissioner David Gross sent out:

“We will be following the model in the NHL where each manufacturer can sponsor individual categories of on-field equipment. For 2013 the open categories are bags, balance bracelets, body equipment (arm pads, chest protectors, rib pads, shoulder pads), compression shirts and shorts, gloves, knee bands, socks, stick handles and stick heads. Manufacturers may also partner with the MLL to acquire MLL game action photos and other marketing assets. For those manufacturers who partner with the MLL, their endorsed players will be able to wear those brands during games.”

This means we could see companies like Maverick or Easton or others start showing off their gear in MLL. A company like STX has been going with the LXM Pro Tour, but now they have the option of working with MLL if they chose it.
