Montreal Junior Lacrosse League Makes Several Signings

After the first two weeks of signings by both of the Montreal teams in the MJLL, both  followed up with multiple signings this weekend.

The Montreal Shamrocks signed 6 more players in Cole Byfelds, Cameron McMillan, Matthew Collard, Branden Desormeau, Ian Hebert and Olivier Cater.  Cole Byfelds is a solid transition player who played for the Kingston Kings last year in the OLA. Cole attends McGill and will be spending the summer in Montreal.  Cameron McMillan is a Far West Lacrosse association product with yeas of experience.  McMillan is a standout transition player with Team Quebec Junior last year at the Founders Cup in Manitoba.  Mathew Collard is another solid transition player who spent the winter playing with the Paragon Phoenix Travel teams.  After competing for Team Quebec Midget last year, Collard looks forward to playing Team Quebec Junior this year at the Founders Cup in Halifax, NS. Ian Hebert, Branden Desormeau, and Olivier Cater all spent the winter season playing on the Paragon Phoenix travel teams that traveled to the US for exhibition games.  They all look to continue their lacrosse development with the Montreal Shamrocks this summer.
Not to be outdone, the Montreal Phoenix followed suit and signed 5 players of their own.  Zach Emond, Michael Marcotte, Allister Baclayo, Jordan Blondin, Stephen Randle.  Zach Emond was a dual purpose player for the Phoenix last year by playing primarily Goal but also spent some time playing defense as well.  He will be a valuable asset on the Phoenix roster this summer. Michael Marcotte was a key piece of the Dawson College Blues lacrosse team this past fall and his development started with the Chateauguay Lacrose Association. Alister Baclayo is new to Box lacrosse, but after being the Most Improved Player for Dawson College Blues Lacrosse in 2013, Allister is ready to take up the challenge of box lacrosse.  Both Jordan Blondin and Stephen Randle were key pieces of the Phoenix last year and they will continue their roles by leading the team this summer.
With these signings, both teams have solidified half of their rosters for the summer and after the Controlled Scrimmage between these two teams this past week, expect to see their rosters filled out last this week at their weekly practices.
The League is hosting a pre-season Tournament on may 17th at Bill Durnan Arena in Montreal.  The full league schedule is up on www.montrealjuniorlacrosseleague.com
