NCAA Championship: Duke vs Syracuse

It’s pretty amazing Duke made it all the way to the NCAA championship game if you remember their start to this 2013 NCAA lacrosse season. Right now they sit at 15-5, but this season has been far from a cakewalk.

They started the season 2-4 with losses to Denver, Notre Dame, Maryland and a big upset by Pennsylvania. Last week they defeated Notre Dame in a 12-11 comeback to advance to the final four, bringing a little bit of revenge.

For the Orange, they are the top seed in the tournament at 16-3. They lost their first game of the season to Albany, a big upset at the time. Their only losses after that were a loss to Villanova and then another big upset from Hobart.

Last week they defeated Yale 7-6 to advance, an overtime victory at that, and just on Saturday they had to score three times late to defeat Denver, another comeback victory. Syracuse has seen their share of adversity this season, but there is no doubt they play up to their competition.

Several great players are playing in their last games of their college career. JoJo Marasco is heading to the New York Lizards after this game, while defender Brian Megill will be heading for the Denver Outlaws.

David Lawson and Jake Tripucka are the top Duke prospects leaving the team after this week. Duke needs to be careful this week, they know they almost blew it to the Cornell Big Red, giving up seven fourth quarter goals and having nine turnovers in that quarter as well.
