NCAAW: Virginia Travels into Duke Territory

Who: Virgina @ Duke

When: 3pm Saturday March 22

Where: Durham, NC.

Virginia is coming off a win against Penn State from March 1st.  The 11-12 game was as close as it gets, and the Cavs are excited that they pulled out the win.  The cavaliers are bringing their strong scoring capabilities, and it will be a shining opportunity for some of their top scorers like Courtney Swan and Liza Blue to perform out on the field. Swan and Blue are making huge moves on the team this year; they’ve contributed to the 13.89 goals per game average.  This game against Duke will be the fifth in a row that UVA will be facing off against a NCAA top ten team.

Duke, however is currently ranked #8 and they are trying to better their 6-3 record. The past two games, one against Jacksonville and one against Davidson, both resulted in victories.  The lady Blue Devils are a well-rounded team, sporting a very strong offense, and a tactful midfield and strong defense. During the Jacksonville game, Taylor Trimble scored four goals, and the solid performance in goal by Kelsey Duryea was key.  If Duryea performs well in goal, it’s sure to be a successful weekend for Duke.  They’ve held their opponent to single digit scores for the past three games, and they are looking to do the same against UVA.

Both teams have their strengths and weaknesses, but it will definitely be tough for UVA to compete with the Blue Devil’s sharpness, both in goal and with scoring.
