NLL Free Agency: Roster Freeze Friday

On Friday NLL teams will not be able to make any more moves on their roster, so teams will be active these next few days. Here are some needs and available players for some teams.

Buffalo Bandits

Buffalo was active yesterday trading away Scott Self and Jimmy Purves. The trade of Purves leaves the left handed transition slot empty. They added Alex Kedoh Hill to the right side of transition and Derek Hopcroft to the right handed shooting side. They could also use a righty defender with Steve Priolo as the only one on their roster. They have Hayden Smith on the practice roster so he could be activated for the left trannie position.

Andrew Murphy was released from Calgary and is a left handed transition man who also plays in Maple Ridge. He could be an option.

Philadelphia Wings

The Wings are always active in the free agent market. They should be getting Brendan Mundorf back at some point which would help a weak left shooting side. They could use another scoring forward in general with Mike McClellan struggling on the right side. Ethan Farrell is on their practice roster but he has struggled at times as well.

If the Roughnecks end up with Nick Patterson as their backup and they move Frankie Scigliano, the Wings could make a play for him. Mat Giles could also be a pickup as a righty shooter.

Rochester Knighthawks

Rochester seemed to make all their moves at the deadline getting two defenders and a transition man. There isn’t a ton of room on their roster and they have Cody McLeod on the practice roster who has been active at times this year.

Toronto Rock

Toronto is pretty deep everywhere and their practice roster has players like Brandon Ivey, Bradley Kiri and Brendan Thenhaus who can be activated if needed.

Calgary Roughnecks

Despite having last season’s goalie of the year, Calgary has given up more goals than anyone in the league. Their defense on paper looks pretty good but they already signed goalie Nick Patterson who could become the backup. They could also use a lefty defenseman. David Joyce is a lefty defenseman released by Washington who could be an option. Eric Martin is also still a free agent.

Colorado Mammoth

The Mammoth addressed their need for a scorer when they traded for Casey Powell. They might need another righty defenseman and they have to look at their goalies too. Tye Belanger has played well but he has only started one career game. Could they look for someone experienced on the free agent market?

Edmonton Rush

Edmonton might need a left handed trannie if anything but overall their roster is pretty set. They are pretty deep at every position and they have some players to come of the practice squad if need be. Tom Mountour is a right handed transition man but could be of use as a veteran player.

Washington Stealth

The Stealth could use another lefty shooter maybe. But that would be about it, their offense is solid and they picked up Matt Roik for the backup position and have Niel Tyacke on the practice roster.

Minnesota Swarm

Minnesota added Zach Higgins as a third goalie which was interesting. They might need a right defender and they are not very deep when it comes to left handed shooters. They added Josh Gillam but they might look for more depth. Joel Henry is on the practice roster at that position as well.
