NLL Season Preview: Edmonton Rush

Coming off their most successful season in team history, the Edmonton Rush are looking to once again make it to a Champions Cup. This time, however, they have a new big name leading the charge, first overall pick Mark Matthews.

Matthews leads an offensive unit that is without Shawn Williams and Aaron Wilson, who were both traded to Buffalo this offseason. However they still have the likes of Corey Small, Ryan Ward, Zack Greer, and fellow draft pick Curtis Knight. There is still a lot of pressure on the rookie to help push this team over the top.

Edmonton has one of the best defenders in the league in Kyle Rubish, who is back for another season with the Rush. They also have Aaron Bold between the pipes, who had an excellent first season as a starter in the NLL. He was named an All-Star in his first stint out west.

The Edmonton Rush are a hard team to predict. They didn’t have a great regular season last  year, but they managed to beat the two top teams in the west come playoff time. They did add Matthews, but losing Williams and Wilson might be one step forwards two steps back.

Whatever the case, it is very good for the league for Edmonton to have success. They’ve been struggling at the gate, which isn’t surprising when the team historically hasn’t been very good. People like to go see winning, and hopefully that comes to the Rush so they can further stabilize the franchise. Their owner, Bruce Urban, has put a top on effort into keeping this team going. Let’s hope he finally gets rewarded for his work on the floor.
