Unseeded Wins the Story of NCAA Tournament Opening Weekend

The first weekend of the 2015 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament is in the books. A weekend of close games was exactly what you’d expect as parity in college lacrosse continues to increase. Entering Selection Sunday, the top four seeds in the NCAA Tournament were a pretty safe bet, and even Duke at #5 was almost a sure thing. The top four seeds took care of business (there were some close…

While the rest of the world is concerned over DeflateGate, lacrosse has a much more serious battle. #BattleofAlbertaGate…. The Edmonton Rush will face the Calgary Roughnecks in the National Lacrosse League’s western conference finals. The two rivals are pitted against each other four times a year and the games are often dubbed the Battle of Alberta. Apparently, this playoff series won’t have that added flare. The Edmonton Oilers of the…

A New York Lizard State of Mind…It’s all about balance

As the MLL wraps up the first part of the season, the New York Lizards are proving that they are the cream of the league as they went 5-0 in a rematch against the Boston Cannons.  There was no way, I believed, the second game in New York would live up to the excitement of the previous week’s game in Boston that was decided by one goal.  Well, much like…

Orange Crush: Cuse Defeats Marist, Faces Johns Hopkins In Annapolis

The game started out with shades of last year’s upset loss to Bryant, as the Red Foxes of Marist scored the game’s first goal to take an early lead. That would be their only lead of the night. Syracuse scored 10 unanswered there after to cruise to a 20-8 victory in a humid Carrier Dome. The Orange will play Johns Hopkins, a 19-7 victor over Virginia earlier in the day,…

Bayhawks Led by Mackrides Past Hounds

The Charlotte Hounds on Sunday afternoon suffered a 14-10 loss to the visiting Chesapeake Bayhawks at American Legion Memorial Stadium. It was a day in which not much went right for the Hounds, including having to deal with a malfunctioning game clock at their home venue. Bayhawks midfielder Matt Mackrides was named Coca-Cola Player of the game for his three-goal performance, while the Hounds were lead by Jake Tripucka with…

Rattlers Defeat Outlaws in Championship Rematch

Sunday saw a rematch of the 2014 MLL championship game when the Denver Outlaws visited the Rochester Rattlers. What a difference a year makes though. The Rattlers handed the Outlaws their second defeat of the season by a score of 15-12. Attackman Jordan Wolf tallied a hat trick for the Rattlers, and five other players had at least two goals for Rochester. Mike Bocklet and Greg Melaugh led the Outlaws…

Simmons: Albany, Maryland, Notre Dame Prove Themselves

What an excellent weekend. While there were a lot of great moments including a nice hidden ball trick goal from Hopkins, for me, the best had to have been watching Albany’s Blaze Riorden make a very nice save before trucking down the field and putting away a goal. Although I picked Albany to win, I did not expect the Great Danes’ defense to show up like it did. If the…
