Patriot League: Bucknell Looking Strong

Bucknell 9, Cornell 8 – If you were on time and could see through the blizzard, the opening 2 minutes looked  as though Cornell was about to run over another Patriot League team.  Two minutes and three Cornell goals later, the game was halted and a sweeper and plow were used to clear the field in what were ridiculous conditions, especially with a white ball.  The break seemed to help the Bison regain their composure and go on a run to see them down by one goal at the half.  The second half proved to be a seesaw battle.  Max Van Bourgondien put home his own hit post with two minutes remaining to tie the game at 8, only to see Chase Bailey put home the game winner with 1:00 left on the clock and take down the previously unbeaten #2 Big Red.  Sean Doyle led the Bison with 3 goals.  Kyle Feeney stood tall in net with 6 saves.

Wednesday:

UMass 6 Lehigh 4: In late afternoon sunshine, Lehigh came firing out of the gate.  David DiMaria got it started followed by Patrick Corbett jumping out to a 2-0 lead 2.5 minutes into the game;  however, turnovers and a stout Minuteman defense put the clamps on the Mountain Hawks forcing 19 turnovers and yielding only one goal in the last 42 minutes. Will Manny made his return for UMass and made an immediate impact with a hat trick to end their three game losing streak.

Saturday:

Lehigh 8 Holy Cross 5 – Lehigh bounced back nicely from Wednesday’s loss to UMass to go 2-0 in league play.  Offensive stats were dominated by David DiMaria (3G) and Brian Hess (2G).    Matt Poillon made 6 saves and the defense caused 5 turnovers in the victory.  James Kennedy led Holy Cross with 2 goals and an assist and Terry McKenna had 1 and 1.  Michael Ortlieb made 7 saves in the loss.

Army 15 Lafayette 6 – Garrett Thul had 6 goals and John Glesener had 4 to lead the Black Knights over the Leopards and even their league record at 1-1.   Army led 3-1 after one quarter and poured on another 5 in the second, including 2 in the final 0:11,  taking a comfortable 8-1 lead at the break.  Army continued to control the flow of the game until a series of penalties in the fourth quarter.  Lafayette was led by Sonny Round (2G) and Brendan Dunlap (1G, 1A) and went 2 for 7 in EMO play.

Colgate 11 Navy 3 – At the Konica Minolta Classic in Baltimore, Ryan Walsh and Peter Baum continued their one-two punch on opposing defenses.  Walsh had 4 goals and 3 assists and Baum had a hat trick.   Midfielder Jimmy Ryan had 2 goals and an assist as the Raiders got it going early and took a 6-2 lead to the locker room.   Navy got scores from T.J. Hanzsche, Austin Heneveld, and Patrick Keena in the defeat.

Bucknell 18 Albany 12 – The Bison exploded for 14 goals in the second half to overcome a 6-4 deficit.  David Dickson scored 3 and added 4 helpers while Tom Flibotte continued his torrid pace with 4 more goals.  The defense forced 28 turnovers and put the clamps on the explosive Great Dane offense in the fourth quarter as the Bison scored the last 6 goals of the game to  run away with it.
