After a sub par season for the Rochester Rattlers finishing with a 6-8 record and just one spot away from making the playoffs, the Rattlers look to have a successful 2014 season in the MLL. Their first step towards success in 2014 was solidifying their 23 Man Protected Roster.
Their 23 Man Protected Roster looks very similar to last season’s roster minus Ned Crotty and Matt Streibel who were traded in early November to the New York Lizards. In return, Rochester picked up Grant Catalino and several draft picks. Catalino was included in the Rattlers 23 Man Protected List this season. He played his rookie season with Rochester in 2011 before being traded. In three seasons in the MLL he has 48 points including 35 goals.
Other notable protected players include starting goaltender; John Galloway. The Syracuse grad 11’ played in 13 games in 2013, recording six wins and seven loses with a 11.97 GAA. Midfielder Jordan MacIntosh was also protected by the club after a strong third year in the MLL. The Oakville, ON native finished fourth in scoring for the Rattlers with 20 goals and two assists in 13 games.
Days after the 23 Man Roster was named, Mark Matthews was acquired by the Rattlers in a trade with New York. Matthews is now joining his third team in three seasons after being drafted by Denver Outlaws in 2012. The Oshawa, ON native and former Whitby Warrior (OLA) has scored 45 points in two seasons in the MLL registering 30 goals and 15 assists. Look for Matthews to replace Ned Crotty on attack and bring a big body presence in the offensive end.
The Rattlers open up the regular season on the road on April 27th at 5 PM vs the New York Lizards.
