The Boston Rockhoppers remain in first place in the North American Lacrosse League. Now at 4-1, the Rockhoppers are ahead of the 3-2 Baltimore Bombers.
Last night’s win was over the 0-3 Rhode Island Kingfish in decisive fashion, 20-7. It is the second game in a row where the ‘Hoppers scored 20 goals after they defeated Baltimore last weekend.
Leading the way for the Rockhoppers in this game was Vince Talbot, getting his third straight start in net and holding a team under ten goals for the third time in a row. Nick Schroeder, the original starter for the season, played the second half.
Mike Stone and Marty Bowes both scored four times to lead Boston, while Andrew Kirkaldy and Ryan Hoffmeister had hat tricks.
Joe Evans started in net for Rhode Island but it was Jameson Love who played the fourth quarter once the game was already out of hand. The top pick in the NALL draft, Michael Maggio scored three times for the Kingfish.
Boston was up 6-1 at the half with Peter Smyth as the only goal scorer for Rhode Island in the first half. Rhode Island was outmatched the entire game after playing tight against Kentucky and Baltimore in previous weeks.
The Rockhoppers had a ten goal run in the first quarter that extended all the way into the third. They led 11-1 at one point until the Kingfish scored with three minutes left in the third.
Peter Vlahakis led the way in the face off dot for Boston with Timmy Fallon out against Craig Bunker of the Kingfish, but Vlahakis dominated his first home game for the Rockhoppers.
Boston returns to action next Saturday when they host the Bombers for the second time at home this season, and this is another game that could be for first place. The Kingfish are at Baltimore next week.
