Teams Pulling Ahead As ILL Continues

Last night saw twelve games of InLax Lacrosse League action, resulting in some teams proving their worth and others trying to prove the doubters wrong. Being week two most teams now have to games under their belt and are starting to show what they’re made of. Today we recap all of the action to see if your favorite team made you happy last night.

Minnesota Maruders 17, Pittsburgh Cavaliers 19

The Pittsburgh Cavaliers did not start off their season on a great note last week, losing to Washington by a 16 to 8 score. This week they showed that they aren’t going to just roll over, beating a Minnesota team with a few key stars. Stephan Leblanc led Pittsburgh with four goals on the night. Evan Kirk did have trouble stopping the Marauders offensive unit that includes Jones, Duch, and Martin. However Pittsburgh was able to hold on and move to 1-1. With the loss the Marauders also move to 1-1 on the season.

Portland Lightning 17, Vancouver Vikings 16

In a game that was close from the start Callum Crawford played hero when he scored the final goal of the game. Portland, who had high expectations coming into the season, has played in two close games. Both of their contests this season have been decided by two or less goals. Vancouver has now suffered defeat twice and has dropped an always important divisional game. They look to turn things around next week against Detroit.

Albany Colonials 11, Toronto Metros 16

Toronto continues their success over Albany, who is still searching for their first win. Colin Doyle lead the team with four goals while Brendan Mundorf and Roger Vyse each had two. The Metros and Stags will have an interesting divisional battle as the season goes along it appears. Toronto is now 2-0 while Albany is 0-2.

Detroit Redhawks 20, Dallas Dingoes 16

Neither of theses teams started off their season exactly as planned, but in round two Detroit took advantage and reached the 20 goal marker for the first time this year. The Redhawks dominated the face-off circle thanks to Adam Rand and Peter Vlhaskis. Corey Small led the team in goals. Detroit moves to 1-1 while Dallas falls to 0-2.

Philadelphia Falcons 18, Edmonton Lynx 17

In the end the Falcons were just able to squeeze by the talented Lynx squad by only one goal. Johnny Powless, who had much success last week against Dallas had a harder time breaking through the Falcons defense. Philadelphia moves to 2-0 while Edmonton is now 1-1.

Baltimore Sharks 12, Buffalo Stags 13

Buffalo remains tied with Toronto at the top of the division thanks to a close victory at home Saturday night. Luke Wiles has shown his leadership early this season leading Buffalo to two important victories. Chris Levis had a very strong night in goal for Buffalo as well. Baltimore is now 1-1 while Buffalo jumps to 2-0.

Rochester Chargers 15, Tampa Bay Snipers 13

Tampa Bay was coming off an impressive 19 to 7 victory over Albany last week but buckled when they faced stronger competition. Rochester took advantage over sloppy transition play by Tampa and walked away with the victory. Rochester and Tampa Bay are now both 1-1.

Quebec City Renards 13, Washington Whirlpool 22

Washington took advantage of the game in the second half, outscoring Quebec 12 to 6 in the final two frames to march to victory. The Whirlpool’s 22 goals is the most scored in a single game in league history. Michael Thompson was excellent in net, holding off Scott Ranger and the Renards. Quebec is now 0-2 while Washington happily sits at 2-0.

Hartford Vipers 19, Charlotte Cougars 7

Hartford had this game from the beginning as they blew out the Charlotte Cougars on the road. Cosmo struggled in this one and was eventually pulled in favor of Drew Dickie. Vipers captain Paul Dawson was very happy with the showing, especially the fact that rookie forward Joe Resetarits really steps up to the plate. Hartford is 2-0 on the season and looks to continue their streak next week against the 0-2 Quebec City Renard. Charlotte is 0-2 and hopes that Buffalo could be the franchise’s first victory next week.

Seattle Serpents 17, Boston Blue Jays 15

Boston is another team that has started the season on the wrong foot, already behind in their division. Cody Jamieson, Stephen Keogh, and Joe Walters ripped apart the Blue Jays defense on route to a 17 to 15 victory. Erik Miller gets the victory in net for Seattle, who moves to 2-0. Boston is now 0-2, still trying to get in the groove.

Winnipeg Prairie Dogs 11, Montreal Monarques 14

Winnipeg has a lot of players with a ton of potential, and some real good projects. However that isn’t leading to wins right now. Winnipeg dropped their second game in a row to Montreal by a score of 11 to 14. Lewis Ratcliff was the story for Montreal, scoring five goals on the night. Montreal is vaulted to 2-0 while Winnipeg drops to 0-2.

Calgary Flyers 15, Chicago Hitmen 10

Chicago’s first ever game didn’t go as hoped as the team dropped their franchise opener 15 to 10 against Calgary. Kevin Crowley and Jordan Hall led the offensive for Calgary on way to their second victory. Chicago is 0-1 on the season while Calgary moves to 2-0.
