It has been exactly two weeks since the Kahnawake Tomahawks learned they would not be attending the Ales Hrebesky Memorial in the Czech Republic. Since that time the other Kahnawake team the Rapids have won the championship, the Kahnawake Mohawks won a game to open the Quebec Senior Lacrosse League season and the league told us the Tomahawks will remain in the league.
Yet, this story still has no closure.
Since those two weeks have passed we have heard plenty about the situation and have heard from the players expressing their disappointment over not going. However, since we broke the story, not much has changed.
As of now, no one has heard from Kevin Biggs and his Facebook profile was deactivated. His Twitter account is active and interestingly his last tweet came on April 9th, which was actually a reply to a tweet of mine from July 2011 (no idea why he responded to that tweet then).
The Ales Hrebesky website posted their statement on April 22. The NLL released their statement on the same day, and Biggs has not been a ref during the NLL playoffs. However, there has literally been nothing written about or discussed in about two weeks. Both the Toronto and Calgary Sun had short writeups describing what happened, but the less than 200 word articles have been the only other text regarding the issue.
On April 26, Tomahawks goaltender Derek Collins appeared on the Vancouver radio program “Off the Crosse Bar” and discussed what happened, and gave some of the same details that appeared on ILIndoor.com on April 23. However, since our initial report, there has not been nearly any new news regarding this.
Some sources have indicated Biggs is in his home town of Peterborough, but it appears he is not being searched for and this story has almost essentially died. The event has come to an end and almost nobody will remember that the Tomahawks did not go to the Ales Hrebesky tournament, a tournament they could have won.
Will this story be left to wither and die with no results, no one to ever hear from Kevin Biggs again, no justice ever served for the players who missed out? Will no further details ever emerge? That is the path we are currently on.
The questions that need to be asked, quite bluntly, are where is Biggs and how come nothing has been done yet? The Tomahawks owner Peter Paul was still in the Czech Republic for the event and he will still manage a Tomahawks QSLL team that will open their season May 23 against their counter part Mohawks.
We know that people care about the end result of this story; after all, it was the most read story in the history of ILWT. The players who did not get to go to the tournament certainly care.
So when, if we do, will we have some closure?
