Toronto Trades Rooney and Bryan To Buffalo

Toronto – Rock General Manager Terry Sanderson announced a trade with the Buffalo Bandits had been completed on Friday.  The Rock have sent defenceman Glen Bryan and forward Jamie Rooney to Buffalo in exchange for the 14th selection (4th pick in the second round – originally owned by Minnesota) in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft and Buffalo’s 2013 4th round NLL Entry Draft selection pending league approval.

“We thank Jamie and Glen for their contributions to the Rock,” said Sanderson.  “You have to give something to get something in this league and we wish them the best of luck in Buffalo.”

Rooney was signed as a free agent prior to the start of the 2012 regular season after he was released by the Washington Stealth.  The Arthur, Ontario native scored 8 goals and added 6 assists for 14 points in 10 games last season.

Bryan was a selected by Toronto in the 2nd round of the 2010 NLL Entry Draft and was a member of the Rock’s championship team of 2011.  The defensive minded 24-year old scooped up 45 loose balls and added 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) in 9 games during the 2012 campaign.

“With Drew Petkoff coming back and Nick Inch coming to camp, we had an abundance of NLL caliber defenders that could be in our lineup on any given night,” explained Sanderson.  “We felt the depth we have defensively could help us acquire a quality pick in the upcoming draft.”

Inch did not play last year and was on the Rock’s holdout list for the entire season after being acquired in a trade from Minnesota in the summer of 2011.  After returning from major knee surgery, Petkoff played in just 3 regular season games in 2012 before suffering an upper body injury that saw him miss the rest of the regular season and playoffs.  Both Petkoff and Inch are expected to be ready for Rock training camp, which opens in December.

Previous to the acquisition of the 2012 2nd round NLL Entry Draft selection from Buffalo, the Rock would have to wait for 19 players to be selected before they would have been able to step to the podium and use their first pick, the 20th overall selection and last pick of the second round.
