Update: US Men’s Team Tryout Pool

The tryouts for the USA Men’s National team start today and the 98 player pool selected has already shrunk. Most recently, Casey Powell has withdrawn his name from contention after helping the Chesapeake Bayhawks to their fifth MLL title. Casey isn’t the only veteran player to withdraw his name, Princeton graduate and current Boston Cannon, Ryan Boyle scratched himself, along with Peet Poillon, who is putting all his focus on Hobart. Followed by Duke’s Jordan Wolf, the Lizards Matt Gibson and Hamilton’s David Earl.

With these six players out, it gave the committee a chance to announce that midfielder Jojo Marasco (New York), Chesapeake’s Jeff Reynolds and SSDM Kevin Drew (Charlotte), were added to the player pool, upping the number from 92 to 94. However, there will still be a lowered number of players in the pool at tryouts with guys having nagging injuries and unable to perform or attend. Here is a list of those players:

Mike Simon – Lumbar Strain – Participating

Faceoff:

Anthony Kelly – Left Elbow/Ankle – Participating/Limited

Greg Gurenlian – Right Wrist/Bone Contusion Left Knee/Torn Labrum Right Shoulder – Participating

This weekend will determine who will make the 46 man roster, which will eventually be cut to 25. Players have tweeted that they are on their way to baltimore and are excited to dawn the Red White and Blue this weekend at Goucher College.
