WLA: Maple Ridge Burrards Defeat Timbermen 8-6

Last night in the WLA the Maple Ridge Burrards hosted the Nanaimo Timbermen. The Burrards had second-year goalie Carson Michaud in net while Nanaimo looked towards Zach Boychuk in net.

The Timbermen got off to a fast start as Blake Kenny opened the scoring with a blazing shot from the outside that beat Michaud. The Burrards were not behind for long as Mike Mallory scored to tie the game 1-1. The Burrards would build on their momentum as rookie Spencer Evans scored to put the Burrards in front 2-1. Both goalies were on their game in the first period but the Burrards would go into the second with the 2-1 lead.

The Burrards would continue to roll in the second period as Brandon Bertoia found the back of the net on the power play for the Burrards putting them in front 3-1. The Burrads continued to build on their lead as Jarrett Davis scored to give the Burrards a 4-1 lead. Nanaimo would battle back as Cody Bremner stopped the Burrards momentum by scoring after a quick feed from Doug Langlois in transition. The Burrards would leave the second period with a 4-2 lead.

The beginning of the third period started out as a goaltender duel as both goalies made some huge saves. Nanaimo would break the deadlock as Langlois and Blake Kenny scored in order to tie the game at 4-4. The Burrards would quickly regain the lead thanks to a solo effort from Creighton Reid as he weaved his way through the Timbermen defense in order to put the Burrards ahead 5-4. Nanaimo would tie the game once more as Cody Bremner scored to tie the game at 5-5. The Timbermen continued to build on their momentum as rookie Conrad Chapman scored to put the Timbermen in front 6-5. The Burrards were not willing to lose on this night though as Jarrett Davis scored to make the score 6-6 and force overtime.

In overtime the Burrards struck quickly as Creighton Reid scored quickly followed by Ryan McMicheal which put the Burrards in front 8-6.  Michaud would do the rest as he blanked the Timbermen in the extra frame and secured the 8-6 win for the Burrards.

The Timbermen played their hearts out and will be back in action on Tuesday for their home opener against the Victoria Shamrocks.
