Women’s: Tournament Begins Thursday

The First Round of the NCAA DI tournament begins on Thursday, May 9.  There will be some exciting rivalries taking place this week, and it will certainly be a great week for Women’s Lacrosse.

Georgetown and Johns Hopkins will take the field at 5 pm on Thursday, in Chapel Hill, NC.  This will be Hopkins’ first appearance in the tournament since 2007, and they are preparing to make a statement this game.  The last time these two teams met this season, Hopkins took the “W” in an 11-10 OT match in March.  Georgetown is a tournament veteran and will be making their eighth trip in the past 11 seasons.  The Hoyas are looking forward to a fresh start with the tournament and hoping that their 2-8 record over some of the competing teams will not hold them back.

The Ladies of Stanford and Duke will also be facing off on Thursday night.  Duke has a record of 9-7 and Stanford, an Impressive 14-4.  The two teams have not met since 2008, but Duke is 6-0 overall against Stanford.  Duke has performed well this season against all of the seeded teams in the Tournament, and they are looking to take out Stanford on Thursday.  Stanford is welcoming their chance to play in the tournament after an upsetting loss to Denver.  Their defense is not always on point, and that is something that Duke will be able to capitalize on in terms of scoring.

Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia are all off until May 11, when the second round of play begins. It will be interesting to see how they use this time off to give an edge to their games.
