Women’s: Virginia, Duke, Louisville Advance

Virginia beat Princeton to move onto the quarterfinals this weekend.  Viriginia’s Courtney Swan has been a huge contributor all season, but she really proved her intensity in the first 10 minutes of the game by scoring three goals to attain a hat trick that would later evolve into Swan’s six-goal game.

Virginia’s strong performance on Sunday is also due to Liz Colgan’s stellar performance in goal.  Virginia will move on to face North Carolina next Saturday in Chapel Hill.  Saturday’s game will prove interesting because UNC has been one of the top teams in terms of all-around play this season.  The sixth-seeded Cavaliers will definitely have their work cut out for them when the face third-seeded UNC on Saturday.

Duke topped Notre Dame to secure their advancement in the NCAA tournament quarterfinals for the 10th year in a row.  Duke has a great team this year with a ton of versatility and talent.  Kelsey Dureya has been making great saves all season, and really proved her skills this weekend with her 11 saves.  The game was filled with great defense and players continuing to make aggressive moves all game.  Duke will face the No. 1 seed, Maryland next weekend in College Park, Md.

Louisville beat Ohio State to claim their 12th win in a row and their first ever NCAA tournament victory! This game was certainly a close one, ending with Nikki Boltja’s game winning goal that brought the Cardinals over the Buckeyes for an 11-10 victory.  Boltja has been leading the Cardinals all season, and she holds a 98-point record on the season.  This victory was especially sweet after Louisville fell to OSU earlier this season.  This game certainly proved that it can be anyone’s match.  The Cardinals are off to face Northwestern this Saturday at 2 pm.
