The Boston Cannons opened up the Major League Lacrosse scrimmage season with a 14-10 win over the Rochester Rattlers on Saturday night. Statistics were not officially recorded, so the following accounts of the game are based off social media posting and what we were told from players.
Matt Poskay, Brodie Merrill, Paul Rabil and Ryan Boyle were all out for this game. Merrill was playing with the Philadelphia Wings while Poskay has coaching commitments with Wagner. Rabil was in attendance but was not in the game. Rochester was without their college roster players.
The Cannons led 4-2 after one quarter and led 9-5 at the half. In the first half, Will Manny scored the seventh goal of the quarter while Kevin Buchanan also scored a third quarter goal.
The Rattlers scored three goals in the fourth quarter but it was not enough to stop the Cannons. Sam Bradman scored a goal as he made his first appearance in a Rochester uniform.
Despite being without so many players, the Cannons were able to find a rhythm on offense behind some of their young players. Returning for the Cannons was defenseman Jack Reid, who picked up an assist in the contest. The Cannons return to Harvard for their last camp next week while Rochester has wrapped up their pre season.
