Division III Weekend Viewing Guide, March 8-9

Last weekend saw some shakeups in the top 20 as water finds its level and this weekend has some great games in store as well. If you’ve got some time on your hands and want to watch some quality lacrosse, I’ve got the medicine for you.

Three Ya Gotta See

  1. No. 11 Lynchburg at No. 16 Gettysburg, 2:30 p.m. Saturday—By far the best matchup of the Saturday slate, this pits two teams that have looked really good at times this year but have each lost to VERY good teams. Lynchburg’s No. 11 ranking despite being 1-2 tells you everything you need to know about the Hornets: they’re very good, but Cabrini and Salisbury are better. The Bulletts also have a loss to Salisbury on their resume and with Cabrini looming next week, Gettysburg could really use a statement win at home this week.
  2. Roanoke at No. 15 Dickinson, 2:00 p.m. Saturday—Both of these teams have had inauspicious starts to their seasons, but none of their losses are particularly damning. The Maroons have found their flow over the last two games, taking out Colorado College and Southwestern by a combined score of 26-5, while the Red Devils are coming off an 0-2 week that featured an upset loss to Montclair State. Whoever wins on Saturday will have a leg up on getting their season back on track, but who that will be is anyone’s guess.
  3. Western New England at No. 10 Springfield , 12:00 p.m. Saturday—One of the closest regional rivalries in the Division III will be renewed on Saturday as Western New England makes the 3.2 mile drive over to Springfield College with the hopes of getting their season back on track. The Golden Bears have lost the last two games to SC after winning the previous six meetings, but these teams are headed in totally opposite directions. Here is a story I wrote last year after Springfield’s 11-10 last-second win.
