Stephen Hoar Brings Size, Presence to Wings Defense

March 6, 2014

The trading deadline may be 12 days away, but the Philadelphia Wings have gone out and signed Stephen Hoar to a one year deal and placed him on the active roster making him available for this weekend’s matchup against the Rochester Knighthawks. With that move the Wings have placed Michael Diehl on the practice squad. Hoar who stands at 6’2″ and weighs 215 pounds will obviously add size to the…

NCAA Weekend Recap   #1 Duke   6 #2 Maryland 10   This was a third quarter game changer as Maryland scored three in the third and held Duke to none. Loyola Greyhounds Shred Apart the Mountainhawks

March 2, 2014

My afternoon started with traffic and box office confusion. Once into the wonderful environment of Ulrich Sports Complex, I was surrounded by team cheering sections and loads of local high school players donning their varsity jackets. Loyola sure gave lacrosse lessons out today, demonstrating many different situations. By the time I was in, the first quarter was halfway over with Loyola on top at 3-1. Shortly after arriving, Lehigh’s Henderson…

Rush Remain Undefeated at 8-0, Defeat Rock 11-10

March 1, 2014

In a game that is sure to be remembered, the Edmonton Rush improved to 8-0 as they defeated the Toronto Rock (4-5) 11-10. Edmonton’s undefeated start ties the NLL mark originally set by the 1993 Buffalo Bandits. The Bandits finished the regular season at a perfect 8-0 and won twice more in the playoffs to win the title and end the season 10-0. Matthews, Conway, and rookie Riley Loewen each…

Game Preview: Wings vs Swarm. Wings Aim to Swat the Swarm

February 23, 2014

Today the Philadelphia Wings (3-6) will face the Minnesota Swarm (1-7).  The Swarm are coming off a 14-12 loss last night to the Toronto Rock.  After three quarters the Swarm were down 13-4 before putting eight goals in the final quarter.  So the question here is did the Swarm shoot their load, or was this a start of momentum coming into this afternoon? The Swarm all season have either had…

NCAA Recap: Lehigh Outlasts Cold to Top ‘Nova In 3-OT

The dashboard thermostat of the Acura TL says the outside temperature is 28 degrees. The Mountainhawks’ turf field is in the middle of a wind tunnel, making “real feel” about 20 (my non-meteorologist guess).  After half of the first quarter, my pen ink is freezing dry, my hands are numb, and a slight shake pulses throughout my bones. I take to the phone, but numb thumbs and a fast-paced sport…
