The New Movement Policy in Major League Lacrosse

February 4, 2016

Major League Lacrosse’s player movement has always been drastically different than that of the National Lacrosse League. While players can be traded in the NLL, free agents are also welcome to sign with any team of their choosing once they hit their free agency period. Brief History Free agency in sports began in the 1970s when Major League Baseball abolished its reserve clause and allowed its players to change teams…

Weekend Lacrosse Thoughts: All Stars

February 2, 2016

All Star Game? The National Hockey League just held what may have been its best all star game to date. The last time the National Lacrosse League held an all star exhibition was in 2012, four seasons ago. The game was played in Buffalo. Before 2012, the all star game had been played consistently every year since 2004 (other than 2010). With the exception of the 2011 game, which was…

The Toronto Rock Are In Even More Trouble

January 30, 2016

The Toronto Rock are 0-5. That sentence alone is enough to make the head of a lacrosse fan spin. The Toronto Rock lost last night to the Georgia Swarm even though they scored 17 goals. The Toronto Rock had 25 goals total before the output of 17 last night. I am so confused that I cannot format this story properly. The Rock’s 0-5 start is now the story of the NLL…

The Strong Season of Dillon Ward (So Far)

January 28, 2016

Alex Buque shone on opening night in Colorado. After getting the surprise start against the Georgia Swarm, Buque has not seen another start all season. Dillon Ward, of whom signed a five year deal with the Mammoth just two years ago, was labeled the next young goaltending star of the National Lacrosse League. After Evan Kirk, a former third overall pick, did not become that next star, all eyes were…

Weekend Lacrosse Thoughts: A Rock-Fall

January 25, 2016

There were only two games this week, so there is really only one thought I want to harp on; the Toronto Rock. The team is in an opposite position than it usually is in, with an 0-4 start, and the geography of the situation is giving me a new theory. Often times, lacrosse hotbeds such as Toronto (or, in Major League Lacrosse, Chesapeake) can be an advantage. Players want to go…
